Understand climate and environmental issues

Climate, biodiversity, health

In Luxemburg, in average, each resident is responsible for the emissions of 15 to 20 tons of CO2, every year. During this same amount of time, nature is only capable of absorbing about 2 tons of carbon dioxyde. The rest contributes to climate change.

Also during one year, in Europe, 790.000 people prematurely die because of air pollution.

Finally, in the world, because of human activity, more than 25.000 animal and vegetal species disappear from one year to the other.

It's time to make a change.

On a personal scale, our actions may seem pointless. However, if we collectively shift to sustainable behaviours, we still have time to react and make a difference. It is now essential for everyone's future.

In Luxemburg, many initiatives are appearing and progressing, in all areas. Our purpose is to provide you with activities, shops, people, restaurants, institutions, organizations, associations in Luxemburg which will help you improve the impact of your day-to-day activities and way of life. We also want to provide you with tips to lower your footprint. All of this without giving up on your quality of life. Maybe actually the opposite.

Climate change - IPCC report 2021

In order to learn more about climate change, we summarized for you the main points to remember from the last IPCC report, published in August 2021.

IPCC report summary

Question of the week

Compared with 1975, what is today the average temperature increase around the globe, according to the IPCC?

Vote results:

+1.1°C : 56.7 %

+2.1°C : 43.3 %

The answer is... +1.1°C compared with the pre-industrial era! While Europe has just been through a particularly warm and dry summer, the average global temperature has 'only' raised by 1.1°C in the last 50 years. The latest studies predict that if we don't make a shift quickly, we could reach +1.5°C by 2030, and about +2°C by 2050. In other words, the current summer might seem quite cool and fresh by then...
